Writing an EFL blog

Just as teaching English makes us more aware of the language we ourselves use when speaking, writing a blog makes us more aware of the language we use when writing.  I’m beginning to observe patterns and becoming more aware of language structures in my own writing.  The use of discourse markers is one example, but also since attending Andreas Grundtvig’s seminar in Berlin in the summer I’ve begun to notice examples of ‘hedging’ in my writing – using words like ‘somewhat’ to dilute a statement that may be seen as critical.

Awareness is no bad thing, and it seems writing a reflective blog can not only help us become more conscious of our teaching methods, but also of our writing style. 🙂
